Porini has supported Cloetta in the design of the control model in the commercial area, leading to the definition of a Business Intelligence system

The company

Since February 16th 2012, following the merger between the Swedish Cloetta and Leaf International, LEAF Italy joined the Group Cloetta.
The new Group is a leader in confectionery markets of Northern Europe, Italy and the Netherlands.
The Cloetta Group’s products are sold in more than 50 countries worldwide.
Cloetta owns some of the strongest brands on the market, such as Läkerol, Cloetta, Jenkki, Kexchoklad, Malaco, Sportlife, Saila, Red Band and Sperlari.
The Group has 12 plants in six countries, including four in Italy.

Business needs

The continued growth of the amount of data used and of corporate stakeholders, who have to provide the appropriate tools clarifies the company’s management the need to re-engineer a solution integrated information and flexible, initially directed to the commercial, to support the company in the analysis of information and development of decision-making to respond so quickly to the ever more rapid and frequent market demands.

The project

In the first phase of the project, the Porini team has joined the company’s management in the design of the control model in the commercial area, leading to the definition of an integrated system of key performance indicators and its relevant dimensions of analysis that could, combined freely, fully explain the results of the actions taken and the levels of profitability achieved on different product lines and different market channels.

To achieve these objectives we conducted a series of interviews with company management designed to clarify the organizational structure, processes and coordination mechanisms as well as the main guidelines for strategic development identified by management. Completed the mapping of information needs and functional to be satisfied, it is then passed to the design of the information architecture and its subsequent implementation. In this second phase, we designed and built the Commercial Datamart and subsequently all subsystems management reporting and operational previously modeled.

This led then to the finalization of a system of reporting and analysis in commercial, single, shared, area accessible via web for more than a hundred users and able to highlight the full results of the commercial activity in optical multi-dimensional, second free and flexible scan paths to customer, Geographical Area, Product, Family Channel. To implement the system we selected and used the following technologies: Datawarehouse and Datamart company: Microsoft SQL Server; Systems Management Reporting and Operating: Cognos 8 BI.

Results

Business intelligence is a key tool in defining strategies of our group. The recommended solution and undertaken with Porini Insight offered the company a scenario analysis very innovative. We translated our complex and rich business information needs into a structured model and optimized model, which allows the company to accurately monitor the market and react quickly to its changes.
